2 Experiments with Paint

Many of the activities on these pages may require adult supervision.

Interesting things to try with paint.

1. Straw Painting

Drop a blob of paint on a sheet of paper. Blow at it through a straw. It will scatter into a strange shape. Drop a blob of a contrasting color on the paper. Blow at it and watch it mix with the other color. If you let the paint dry before adding a second color, you will get a different effect.

2. Rorschach Painting

Fold a sheet of paper in half. Open and drop a blob of paint on one side. Close and smooth flat. Open. What do you see? What does your "painting" look like? Psychologists show paintings like these to people to find out what they are thinking. The pictures they show are called Rorschach tests after the man who invented them.
