Making Gifts
From Superkids by Jean Marzollo - Illustrations by Irene Trivas

Many of the activities on these pages may require adult supervision.
Be sure to tell a grown-up about what you're planning and ask for permission before getting started.

My mother used to tell me that she loved the gifts I made her better than the perfume and costume jewelry I used to buy for her at Woolworth's. I didn't believe her, but now as a parent I know she was telling the truth. Everything my children make for me has great appeal simply because they made it. I have pencil holders and plant containers and wall hangings and Popsicle sculptures, and I love them all. You'll just have to take my word for it. The gifts you make yourself for others, especially grown-up others, are the best.

You don't have to make just one of any particular thing. If you get accomplished at a certain gift, such as corn-husk dolls, make that your specialty. Each time there is a special occasion you can give a different version:
a bride doll, a dancing doll, a sports doll, a baby doll, a grandmother doll.
