Grace Maccarone, my Scholastic editor for many years, asked me to write a series of Level 1 science readers for children in grades K-1. I loved writing these books, and I love the illustrations by Judith Moffatt, a wonderful paper/collage artist. I wrote the books simply and poetically because both science and kids inspire me.
