Many of the activities on these pages may require adult supervision.
Be sure to tell a grown-up about what you're planning and ask for permission before getting started.
This section covers a wide range of activities, from drawing to painting to making Valentines. No single skill is explored in depth, so if you find you are especially interested in anyone subject or craft, go to the library and find books about it. Don't just look in the children's book section. Try the adult art section too. You'll find beautiful books on pottery, weaving, painting, jewelry, sculpture, and so on. Some books will give you the kind of detailed information you need; others will have pictures that inspire you.
Sometimes kids miss out on art experiences at home because they don't have materials handy when they get an idea. Slowly, you should equip your room or desk with good art equipment. (See Art Supplies.) Art equipment is not cheap. Consider asking for it for your birthday or other holidays. At the very least you should have a good watercolor set, crayons, colored pencils, drawing pencils, a pencil sharpener, and paper. Good paper makes a difference. Painting with watercolors on good paper is a different and far more satisfying experience than painting on thin, hard writing paper. Visit arts and crafts stores in your area to get an idea of what supplies are available.
